Habergeon Not a weapon, but protection, defense: an Old English word for Breastplate. It is properly a “coat of mail”. Description of Habergeon or coat of mail: Exodus 28:32And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an habergeon, that it be not rent. Exodus 39:23And there was an hole in the midst of the robe, as the hole of an habergeon, with a band round about the hole, that it should not rend. Goliath was armed to the teeth: 1 Samuel 17:5And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass. King Saul tried to prepare David: 1 Samuel 17:38And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. King Uzziah prepares his warriors for Battle: see vs 12-13 2 Chronicles 26:14And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones. As Nehemiah is having the Walls rebuilt: Nehemiah 4:16 And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.

Hezekiah prepares for battle: 2 Chronicles 32:5 Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance. Leviathan not afraid of man’s weapons: Job 41:26 The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon. Job 41:29 Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear. Words of warning: read the whole chapter. Proverbs 7:23 Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life. Paul reminds Believers of the Spiritual Battle: Ephesians 6:16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Paul reminding the Jews, when Moses went to the mountain: Hebrews 12:20 (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:

Judges 3:21-22 And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly:And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out.

A buckler is a small, round shield, worn on the forearm or held by a handle. God protected Israel: 2 Samuel 22:31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. 1 Chronicles 5:18 The sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skilful in war, were four and forty thousand seven hundred and threescore, that went out to the war. 1 Chronicles 12:8 And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle shield and buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains; 2 Chronicles 23:9 Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David’s, which were in the house of God. Job rebukes his friends: Job 15:26He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers: The Psalmist writes, God is our protector: Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. Psalm 18:30As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. Psalm 35:2Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help. Psalm 91:4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Romans 1:14I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. It became Paul’s calling to go to the gentiles and reveal these mysteries, the first being that salvation was now open to gentiles, who were to become the church (along with Jews who believed that Jesus was their Messiah), the body of Christ.
Romans 1:17-18 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 1 Corinthians 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 1 Corinthians 3:13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 1 Corinthians 14:30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. Ephesians 3:5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; Philippians 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 2 Thessalonians 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 2 Thessalonians 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 2 Thessalonians 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
There are two definitions for the word CURSE: Noun – a solemn utterance intended to invoke a supernatural power to inflict harm or punishment on someone or something. And – an offensive word or phrase used to express anger or annoyance. Verb – invoke or use a curse against. And – utter offensive words in anger or annoyance.
Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matthew 15:4, Mark 7:10For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: Matthew 26:74, Mark 14:71Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. Mark 11:21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. Luke 6:28Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. John 7:49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed. Acts 23:12And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. Acts 23:14And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul. Romans 12:14Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: James 3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 2 Peter 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: Revelation 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: In the text above it would appear to CURSE something was to mean harm to it.
As a believer, we should be very careful when we CURSE something or someone.
-an offensive word, used especially as an expression of anger.
Matthew 5:34But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: Matthew 5:36Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. Matthew 23:16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! Matthew 23:18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. Matthew 23:20-22 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. Matthew 26:74, Mark 14:71 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. Hebrews 6:13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, Hebrews 6:16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. James 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
By the use of SWEAR in the above texts, it would appear that to swear by something, was a stronger commitment than just to take an oath.
Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
