Love in Luke

Luke 6:2But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
The Lord Jesus, speaking to His disciples and a multitude:
Luke 6:32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
Luke 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Disciples, defending a Centurian’s servant:
Luke 7:5 For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.
The Lord tells Simon (Peter) a short story:
Luke 7:42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
Luke 7:47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
A certain lawyer answers the Lord concerning the Law:
Luke 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
The Lord issues a warning.
Luke 11:42-43 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
Teaching His disciples:
Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Again, The Lord issues a warning.
Luke 20:46 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;

The TEST

Do you Love your son over God?
Genesis 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

The Military teaches locality to GOD, Country, then Family.
Non-military would say GOD, Family then Country.
The Jews were told Deuteronomy 6:5
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

All through the New Testament God’s Love for Man is expressed.
Best summed up in John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
God only has one requirement THAT WE BELIEVE!
BELIEVE WHAT?
Romans 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Love in Mark

One came to question Him on Eternal Life and The Lord included:
Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
He was asked, which is the greatest commandment?
Mark 12:30-31 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

First mention of husband and wife love in Scripture.

Father loved one son, Mother loved the other.

But he went about it all wrong.

When a parent loves one child over all the others
Genesis 37:3-4Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
Judah answers Joseph (who he did not recognize) about his family

The Gospels are the recorded ministry of the Lord Jesus as He presented Himself as the Messiah to the Jews. And as recorded in John 3:16 He came in Love (love for the whole world). And love, as it appears in the Gospels will usually be spoken by the Lord Jesus.

Love in Hebrews

The authorship to Hebrews is uncertain, BUT it is consistent with Paul’s writing and doctrine. This book presents Christ as the Author and Perfecter of our faith only as Paul would write.
The Apostle Paul quotes Psalm 45:7 and Isaiah 61:3.
