Shroud of Turin

The Shroud of Turin is a centuries old linen cloth that bears the image of a crucified man. A man that millions believe to be Jesus of Nazareth. Turin is in northwest Italy. The Shroud of Turin, also called Holy Shroud, Italian Santa Sindone, a length of linen that for centuries was purported to be the burial garment of Jesus Christ. It has been preserved since 1578 in the royal chapel of the cathedral of San Giovanni Battista in Turin, Italy. It measures 4.3 metres (14 feet 3 inches) long and 1.1 metres (3 feet 7 inches) wide, it seems to portray two faint brownish images, those of the back and front of a gaunt, sunken-eyed, 5-foot 7-inch man—as if a body had been laid lengthwise along one half of the shroud while the other half had been doubled over the head to cover the whole front of the body from face to feet. The images contain markings that allegedly correspond to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus, including thorn marks on the head, lacerations (as if from flogging) on the back, bruises on the shoulders, and various stains of what is presumed to be blood.

The Scripture says:
John 20:1-7 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

There were TWO, separate cloths, one for the head and one for the body.
Not sure what the Shroud of Turin is BUT it is NOT an image of the Lord Jesus Christ.

A final thought: Turin is in Italy, the Lord Jesus was crucified on a hill in Jerusalem, Israel.

How you live your life is YOUR choice. You can live a good life or an evil wicked life or anything in between. Deny what the scripture says insures that you will spend eternity separated from God.

Life is short and full of trouble

It is powerful and consuming

Have Faith in Him (to be saved believe in Christ)

How does God satisfy a persons need?
By providing his deep needs for forgiveness, for salvation, security, stability, purpose and meaning to life!

VS 4 – John 15:25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

Death of Jesus

They thought that the Kingdom of God should immediately appear. (Lk 19:11)
Jesus teaches a Parable. (Lk 19:12-27)

All four of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, record events about the Death, Burial and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus. (The Death, Burial and Resurrection is the Gospel for the Church Age. 1 Cor 15:1-4) The last 8 days before the Resurrection are very busy days for the Lord, and one must combine all four Gospels to get the complete picture. The week prior to Sunday Day 1, (which is referred to as Palm Sunday) the Lord had visited Bethany and raised Lazarus from the dead, causing quite a stir with the Chief Priests and Scribes. This event had been widely talked about throughout Jerusalem (Jn 12:1) and caused the chief priests and scribes to want to kill him.

A very busy day for the Lord. They wanted to make him their King.

After a very busy day at the Temple, he has Jewish leaders upset and Judas discouraged.

Back to Jerusalem and after some teaching, prepare for the Last Supper.

No sleep, arrested, tried and condemned. To the Cross.

Jesus is in the tomb. It’s an Annual High Holy Day. Religious observances.

Still in shock, Disciples dispersed. Prepare for Sabbath.

Observe the Sabbath. Then Ladies plan early visit to the Tomb.

Gabriel the Angel

Gabriel is named 4 times in the Scripture. Twice in Daniel and twice in Luke.

Gabriel is instructed to help Daniel understand a vision.
Daniel 8:16 And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.
Read all of Chapter 8 to understand the vision.

Then again in Daniel, Gabriel was sent to aid Daniel in understanding what he was seeing.
Daniel 9:21 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.
Read all of Chapter 9 to understand the events.

Gabriel was sent to Zacharias to inform him that he and Elisabeth were to have a child (even thought they were both well stricken in Age).
Luke 1:19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.

Later he went to Mary, the young virgin, to inform her of what was coming in her life.
Luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

Altar in the Church

Valley Forge Baptist Church: The Altar Call – Is It Biblical?

Matthew 5:23,24; 23:18-20,35, Luke 1:11; 11:51
1 Corinthians 9:13; 10:18, Hebrews 7:13; 13:10, James 2:21

The above verses appearing in the New Testament speak of the Altar located in the temple. The Altar was a place for a sacrifice, usually a blood sacrifice; blood from an animal that was sacrificed.

Where is the altar in the Church today? There is none. We don’t bring blood sacrifices to God any longer.

It appears that the “Cross” is the final altar (Hebrews 13:9-16) for believers.
Remember the final words the Lord said, “IT IS FINISHED” (John 19:30).

Then what is an “altar call” that is given when the Evangelist/Preacher/Pastor is done speaking?
There is NO Altar in the Church.

But one will say “I went forward to get; saved, confess my sin, get healed, to get right with God, for assurance etc.”. All of these can be handled anywhere, anytime as the Holy Spirit convicts an individual.

Why are altar calls given? So that the Evangelist/Preacher/Pastor can count heads.

Going forward is not wrong (but it’s not an altar call). Going forward should also include counselling, not just counting heads. All the reasons for going forward after hearing a message can be handled in the pew, including salvation.

Is it wrong to go forward? No, not if you are in need of counselling, BUT it is not an ALTAR.

It would appear that the ALTAR is currently in Heaven:
Revelation 6:9; 8:3,5; 9:13; 11:1; 14:18; 16:7.

Birth of Jesus

Recorded in Matthew 2 and Luke 2 is the birth of Jesus. Most have seen a Christmas Play at a church or school. On stage is a manger scene with Mary, Joseph, shepherds, animals and a baby Jesus. Coming up the Isle are 3 kings following a movable Star. It’s all very sweet and touching. But just what does the Bible Say?

verb – 1. make (previously unknown or secret information) known to others.

It became Paul’s calling to go to the gentiles and reveal these mysteries, the first being that salvation was now open to gentiles, who were to become the church (along with Jews who believed that Jesus was their Messiah), the body of Christ.

Romans 1:17-18 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

New Covenant

God establishes HIS covenant with Abraham and his descendants through Isaac (The Jewish Nation). The following verses show that His covenant was with Israel and Judah.
Genesis 17:7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
Genesis 17:13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
Genesis 17:19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
Leviticus 24:8 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.
