There are two definitions for the word CURSE: Noun – a solemn utterance intended to invoke a supernatural power to inflict harm or punishment on someone or something. And – an offensive word or phrase used to express anger or annoyance. Verb – invoke or use a curse against. And – utter offensive words in anger or annoyance.
Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matthew 15:4, Mark 7:10For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: Matthew 26:74, Mark 14:71Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. Mark 11:21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. Luke 6:28Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. John 7:49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed. Acts 23:12And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. Acts 23:14And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul. Romans 12:14Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: James 3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 2 Peter 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: Revelation 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: In the text above it would appear to CURSE something was to mean harm to it.
As a believer, we should be very careful when we CURSE something or someone.
-an offensive word, used especially as an expression of anger.
Matthew 5:34But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: Matthew 5:36Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. Matthew 23:16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! Matthew 23:18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. Matthew 23:20-22 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. Matthew 26:74, Mark 14:71 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. Hebrews 6:13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, Hebrews 6:16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. James 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
By the use of SWEAR in the above texts, it would appear that to swear by something, was a stronger commitment than just to take an oath.
Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Paul writes to the Believers in the Galatian Church not to return to the law: Galatians 4:9But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, In his letter to the church in Ephesus he reminded them of our position with the Lord after we are saved: Ephesians 2:13But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: Paul wrote to Philippi that even though he was not with them they should continue to serve the Lord: Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation … And to the church in Colossian he reminded them of his teaching about the MYSTRIES that had been revealed to them and also to be aware of what they were before salvation. Colossians 1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: Colossians 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. When Timothy came to Paul and informed him of how well they were doing he told they how he wanted to come and see them. 1 Thessalonians 3:6 But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and … To Philemon he pleaded for a runaway slave as Paul returned him. Philemon 1:11Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable… To the believing Jews who were still caught up in the temple worship and trying to follow the LAW he wrote: Hebrews 2:8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. Hebrews 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, … Hebrews 9:26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin … He reminds the Jews of God’s promises to their fathers, a better land. Hebrews 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. Hebrews 12:26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
BUT NOW as we study and learn the word of God we need to be sharing it with our unsaved friends before its too late.
What comes to mind when you think of Thanksgiving Day? Turkey? Family? Friends? Big Meal? Fun-Happiness? Thanks to God? What the Lord Jesus has done? Pilgrims?
Pilgrims … they had many reasons for coming to the new world: escape government oppression, escape old debts, dislike of old life of persecution, challenge, adventure, a new beginning, etc. etc. Thanksgiving should remind us of a new beginning.
When you got saved, you got a new beginning. Your name was written into the Lambs Book of Life, ALL old events of your life are blotted out by the blood of the Lord Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
THANK GOD FOR EVERYTHING – ESPECIALLY FOR YOUR SALVATION – And the opportunity to spend eternity with HIM forever in a place we can’t even describe.
1 Corinthians 2:9But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily
Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
What do we know about Joseph? He was a just Man Matthew 1:19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. He was obedient to God Matthew 1:24-25Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus. See also Matthew 2:13-14, 19-23 He was a Jew, in the linage of the house of David Luke 1:27 states “To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.” Matthew 1:1-16 “……And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ”. Luke 3:23-38 records the geology of Joseph. Vs 31 states ”Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David,”. He was a Carpenter by trade Matthew 13:55 Is not this the carpenter‘s son? is not his mother called Mary? … Joseph disappears from the scripture but some things are surmised: He was probably in his mid-twenties, a carpenter, not wealthy but able to support a family. He was obedient to the Temple and to the Law, (both God’s and Man’s). He probably died before Jesus was Crucified as he is not mentioned there.
What do we know about Mary? She was espoused to Joseph Matthew 1:18 She was a Virgin Luke 1:27 She was in favor with God Luke 1:30 She was obedient to God Luke 1:38 She was a Jew and acknowledged God as her Savior Luke 1:46-47 She was related to Elisabeth, (Luke 1:40-41) Mother of John the Baptist Luke 1:57-63 She was probably in her teenage years.
Joseph & Mary had at least 6 other children after the birth of Jesus. Matthew 13:55-56 Is not this the carpenter‘s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? …
Note: James was the leader of the Assembly in Jerusalem, and wrote the epistle of JAMES. Judas (Jude) wrote the epistle of JUDE.
Luke 2:1-3 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
The Census of Quirinius was a census of Judea taken by the Roman governor upon the imposition of direct Roman rule in 6 CE.
This taxation order forced Joseph, who obeyed the Law of the Kings, to leave Nazareth, the city where He and Mary lived awaiting the birth of their first child and return to Bethlehem, his birth place.
Luke 2:4. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
Luke 2:4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
It would appear it took Joseph, and a heavily pregnant Mary riding on a donkey, about a five-day journey (possibly longer) to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Bethlehem is situated in the Judaean Hills 5 miles (8 km) south of Jerusalem. Bethlehem was a small farming and sheep town with many shepherds living there.
The City of Bethlehem is mentioned in 12 Books of the Old Testament most notability:
MICAH 5:2But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
