Devices/Wiles of the Devil/Satan 1

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
2 Corinthians 2 :11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

Devices or Wiles of Satan, The Devil:

DOUBT – Many a young believer will doubt their salvation, especially when they sin, things are falling apart all around them. This is a device of the devil. God would not have us DOUBT our salvation.
Romans 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

FEAR – another device of Satan: Fear is not of God. We should not fear death.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
1 Corinthians 15:55-57 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
And Paul (who suffered much) reminded believers to fear no man:
Hebrews 13:6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

NO HOPE – HOPELESSNESS – Satan wants us to believe we have no hope, that all is hopeless. This is not from God. Remember Job? (read chapters 1-3)
Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

WORRY– another wile from Satan. He wants the believer to worry about everything. But Paul offers a solution:
Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

UNFORGIVENESS – Satan would love for a believer to think they are unforgiven. But Paul reminds us that through HIS blood we have forgiveness:
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Colossians 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

BITTERNESS – Another trap from the devil. Bitterness or being bitter hurts our testimony.
Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Colossians 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
Hebrews 12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

HATE – Believers should not HATE someone. But hate sin:
Romans 7:15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
Paul reminds us of what we were:
Titus 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

ENVY – The devil loves to get into the mind of a believer with this device:
Romans 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Romans 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
1 Corinthians 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
2 Corinthians 12:20 For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:
Galatians 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another.
Philippians 1:15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
1 Timothy 6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
Titus 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

To defeat the DEVICES or WILES of the devil, the apostle Paul wrote:
1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Satan – A Real Being

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Many people today, and through out history have scoffed at the idea of an evil being called SATAN. If an individual does not believe the Holy Bible then they have no reason to believe. But SATAN is mentioned by this name and several others all through the Scripture. This study will only look at the occurrences of SATAN. He is first mentioned in Chronicles where he provoked King David.

1 Chronicles 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

To get an insight to the spiritual battle between God and Satan we turn to the first 2 chapters of the book of Job (Probably the oldest book in the Bible).

Job 1:6-9 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
Job 2:1-4 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD. And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.
Job 2:6-7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life. So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

Resist the Devil

James, writing “to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad”, warned them to “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 1:1; 4:7

And the Apostle Peter (1 Peter 1:1) writing to “the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia” (fellow Jews), warns them:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”
(1 Peter 5:8-9)

The devil is far more powerful and intelligent (as well as subtle and seductive in his malignant purposes) than any combination of human enemies we could ever face, and we would be utterly unable to defeat him with our own human resources. Yet, God’s Word makes it plain that we are neither to yield to him nor flee from him. As the Apostle Paul writes to believers, we must “put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” We have “the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the [wicked one],” and also “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:11,16-17).

But how can we resist such a mighty foe? As in our text, we must constantly maintain sobriety and vigilance against his enticements, and be careful to remain “steadfast in the faith.” Otherwise, the pseudo-intellectualism and social peer pressure to which we are subjected daily could quickly persuade us to compromise the faith, or even to depart from the faith.

We are commanded not to yield and not to compromise. Instead, This mighty sword with which we can make Satan flee from us is literally “the sayings of God”—that is, an appropriate individual word from the complete Word of God. This was the instrument with which the Lord Jesus Himself resisted the devil, parrying each temptation with an incisive thrust of Scripture. The result then—as it will be now with us also—was that the devil “departed from him for a season” (Luke 4:13).

AntiChrist – The Last Days

The world situation today: News broadcasters, commentators and prophets, both true and false are filling the air waves with what’s happening and what’s going to happen, according to man’s calculations and what the word of God does or doesn’t say. We’re being blasted with doomsday reports: Food shortages, Oil, Gas, heating shortages, overcrowding, global warming or cooling, Hurricanes and Ocean risings. Environmental EXPERTS are continually warning us about the destruction of Mother Earth. They warn, we’ve got to stop our fighting, our bickering, our useless wars, we’ve got to join to combat the common problems that will destroy us all. There is just too many of us traveling thru space on this little ball which is growing smaller each day. What’s the Solution? Something as to be done… More Laws, more legislation, more controls, tighter regulations, tighter controls, WE NEED HELP! We need a Solution!

The only solution (and many of our own elected officials are promoting this) is a ONE world government. Now this Government (like all governments) will need a leader – a man to head it up – a Super person to run the show. The whole world is calling for this to happen. For many, many years world leaders have been stating this very fact and look what they’ve tried: The League of Nations, The United Nations, both man’s efforts at a one world government, ONE WORLD LEADER.

What does scripture have to say about all this? What’s the THUS SAITH THE LORD?

Daniel predicted a one world leader: Daniel 7:8,21-26; 8:24-25; 9:27; 11:37-45 Then in Revelation 13:1-8 Where he comes from, his kingdom, his power, his authority, even his length of serving. He’s the Beast!

Two Beasts: Revelation 13:1 (the 1st beast) and 13:11 (the 2nd beast). Why two Beasts? God is a trinity: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Satan is a counterfeiter. Isaiah 14 gives us his bold “I WILL” claims. One of these is “I will be like the most High God”. Satan (Lucifer) will copy God’s trinity. Revelation 12:3 gives us the Dragon, Satan’s counterpart to God. The first beast (Revelation 13:1) is the counterpart to Christ. The second beast (Revelation 13:11) is the counterpart to the Holy Spirit. Revelation 19:20 names the second beast “The False Prophet”.

The first beast is simply called the “beast”. Daniel referred to him as the “Little Horn” but that’s to show his power not his name. The Christian world calls him the ANTICHRIST. Which means “one who opposes or is opposite Christ”. It is interesting to note “ANTICHRIST” is only found in John’s epistles and then it doesn’t speak of the Antichrist. 1 John 2:18,22; 4:3; 2 John 1:7. Christ warned that in the great tribulation (Last 3 ½ years) there would be many false christ’s Matthew 24:21-28. Even now there are those false christ’s around. The ANTICHRIST (beast of Revelation 13) will be a man, a political leader, he’ll be a world renowned person, he’ll appear to be a good guy, solving many problems and offering peace to all.

Death – Appointed

Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Image result for life after death"

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Romans 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
Romans 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
1 Corinthians 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
1 Corinthians 15:26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
1 Corinthians 15:54-56 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
2 Timothy 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
2 Corinthians 5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
Philippians 1:23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

DEATH! Not a question of WILL I die, but WHEN and WHAT will happen to me? According to the Holy Scripture, Death is not the END, but the BEGINNING of Eternity.
Where will you spend it? With God, or Separated from God!
The choice has to be made, in this life, and by EVERY individual.

Death – What Saith the Scripture?

Words of Gloom – Word’s of Man’s wisdom

And many today are still spouting the same words….
Job 7:1 Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling?
Job 7:21 And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.
Job 10:21 Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;
Job 14:2 He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
Job 14:7-12 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground; Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant. But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he? As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up: So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

Psalm 39:4 LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.
Psalm 144:4 Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.
Psalm 146:4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
Ecclesiastes 2:14-18 The wise man’s eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all. Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity. For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool. Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit. Yea, I hated all my labour which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me.
Ecclesiastes 3:2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
Ecclesiastes 3:19-21 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again. Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
Ecclesiastes 5:15 As he came forth of his mother’s womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.
Ecclesiastes 9:3-10 This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead. For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works. Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment. Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun. Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

Enoch and Elijah

Where were they taken? We read of the account of Enos in Genesis:

Genesis 5:18-24 And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch: And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons …. And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

In Hebrews, the Apostle Paul, tells us more of what happened to Enoch:

Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Where did God take him (bodily)? And then let’s look at Elijah. His life and ministry are recorded in 1 and 2 Kings. But look at 2 Kings 2:11.

And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Image result for enoch and elijah"
The last mention of Elijah is in Malachi speaking of his return to earth.

Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

Where did God take him (bodily)? In the New Testament ELIJAH is translated as ELIAS.

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all refer to Elias (Elijah). And as we read some of the references a question comes to mind, Was John the Baptist ELIJAH (ELIAS)? Just look at the following verses. (Read them in context)
Matthew 11:14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
Mark 9:11-13 And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come? And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought. But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.
Matthew 17:3, 10-12 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

It would appear that the Lord Jesus was calling John the Baptist, ELIAS. But when John the Baptist was questioned, he answered:

John 1:21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

Could it be that the Lord Jesus was referring to John the Baptist as fulling the spirit of ELIAS (not a bodily return).

Mark 9:2-6 (Matthew 17:1-4, Luke 9:28-30) Records the TRANSFIGERATION of Moses and Elias on the mount with the Lord Jesus. Could this be what the Lord was talking about when he said Elias would come? But back to the original question: Where were the bodies (Enoch, Elijah) taken? Enoch was translated, Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven BOTH men were taken BODILY.
But they could not have gone into Heaven where God is, as Christ had to be the first to go into Heaven, where God is, IN A BODY raised from the dead. Ergo, they must have gone into PARADISE (Luke 23:43, 16:19-31). Then followed Christ when He went into Heaven Ephesians 4:8-10.
1 Corinthians 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept.
1 Corinthians 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

What Happens to us When We Die?

Image result for life after death

In the Old Testament they believed in life after death:
Job 19:25-27 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
Isaiah 26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Hosea 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

The Book of Revelation: The Seven Trumpets: The Bottomless Pit

Before the Lord Jesus died on the cross, The Unbeliever died, body was buried, soul & spirit went to Sheol, Hades, Hell, Tartarus. — The believer died, body was buried, soul & spirit went to Paradise. Luke 16:19.
As the Lord Jesus hung on the cross, He made a promise to the thief (Luke 23:43) “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise“.
The Lord Jesus died and his body was put into a tomb, His soul and spirit went to paradise (with the thief).During the next 3 days and nights the Lord preached to them in Paradise (1 Peter 3:19 (By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;).) Then he came out of the tomb, appeared to Mary (John 20:11-17) and then ascended to heaven (vs 17). He also took Paradise and all of those in Paradise with him.
The location of Paradise was in the center of the earth:
Matthew 12:40 (For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.),
Ephesians 4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?). He went there to set free those who dwelt there:

Doctrine of Mystery

Definition: The secret or specialized practices ritual peculiar to an occupation or a body of people.

Jesus used the word mystery in Matthew 13:11 He answered and said unto them, because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Mark 4:10 And he said unto them, unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

Paul used the word mystery in respect of Church Age doctrine:
