Three Doves

Story of Noah is recorded in Genesis 6-10.

Genesis 8:1 And God remembered Noah…
In the midst of all trouble and travail, God remembers His own…
Noah and family locked up inside the Ark for 7 months and 17 days…
Genesis 19:29 God remembered Abraham…
Genesis 30:22 God Remembered Rachel…
1 Samuel 16:19 God remembered Hanna…
And the list goes on all through Scriptures…
God Never forgets, (Except our sins Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. Hebrews 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.)
In times of trouble, despair, disaster, GOD IS THERE, remembering you …
Genesis 8:6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, (after 10 months vs 5)
A Raven is sent out … why a Raven? Ravens are mentioned in Scripture 11 times.
Leviticus 11:15, Deuteronomy 14:14, Unclean, not to be eaten.
1 Kings 17:4, obeyed God and brought food to Elijah
Proverbs 30:17, They are scavengers
Psalm 147:9, Job 38:41,
Song of Solomon 5:11, Isaiah 34:11, Comparisons of color.
Then Noah sent forth a Dove. Dove appears 31 times in Scripture, (Turtledove, same word, 10 times).
Most of the time it’s used is reference to being a sacrifice for sins…
Other times used as a word of endearment of peace and gentleness. (Song of Solomon 2:14,5:2)
The four Gospels all equate the Dove to the image of the Holy Spirit which descended upon the Lord Jesus at His baptism.
IT’S INTERESTING THAT THE DOVE IN GENESIS WAS SENT FORTH 3 TIMES.
8:8-9 returned, finding no rest
8:11 returned with an olive branch
8:12 didn’t return (found a resting place)
WHY? Is there a spiritual truth hidden here?
1st The Raven… type of man’s effort. Willing to settle for lesser things.
Scavenger, pick’s on bones of dead.
The 1st Dove … Symbol of God, the Father (1 Dove 3 times … 1 God, 3 offices)
No rest for her feet.
(mountain tops were in view, no doubt debris, trees, dead bodies were floating).
Doves are very gentle, sensitive creatures, just as the Dove find no resting place, neither did God find mankind fit for fellowship with Him.
The 2nd Dove …. Symbol of God the Son
Returned with an Olive Branch, the symbol of peace.
The Son came to earth to bring peace … and had to shed His blood
The 3rd Dove … Symbol of the Holy Spirit.
Returned not again, found a resting place
The Holy Spirit has found a resting place in the heart of all who have believed and are saved by the blood of Christ.

The Children of Noah

Just an interesting look at Noah’s Family. Three sons are listed SHEM, HAM and JAPHETH, no daughters. Was Noah 500 years old before he had children? This seems strange but the answer could lay in the fact that the world had become very wicked and any children born earlier had fallen into the ways of the world and would perish in the flood. (Read Genesis 6:1-8)

Genesis 5:32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
It appears Noah was 502 years old when Shem was born;
Genesis 11:10-11 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood: and Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
making Japheth born 1-2 years prior to Shem and Ham born sometime after Shem: Japheth then Shem then Ham.
(Genesis 9:24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son (Ham) had done unto him).
(Japheth, Shem, Ham oldest to youngest, in order of age).
Shem is in the Godly linage – therefore this is probably why he is listed first.

If there were any other children born between the age of 500-600 years of Noah’s life, they probably went the way of the world and perished in the flood.

After the Flood.
Genesis 9:18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan.
Genesis 10:1-2 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. (7 Sons)
Genesis 10:6 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan. (4 Sons)
Genesis 10:21-22 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born. The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram. (5 Sons)
Genesis 9:28-29 And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

No other children are listed in scripture for Noah and his wife.

Noah is mentioned 8 times in the new testament:
In the genealogy of Jesus Luke 3:36 which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech,
And by the Lord Jesus Mathew 24:37-38 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
Also recorded in Luke 17:26-27 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
1 Peter 3:20 which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
2 Peter 2:5 and spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

The Ark of Safety

Genesis 6

The ARK was God’s plan
Genesis 6:1-4 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
Peter writes about this:
1 Peter 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
2 Peter 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly
The ARK was available for all when death threatened
Genesis 6:5-7 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
The ARK was a God appointed refuge
Genesis 6:13-14 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. So make yourself an ark of cypress[a] wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The Ark of Safety Part 2

The ARK was the ONLY refuge
Genesis 6:17-18 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
Jesus said to the Jew:
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
The warnings apply to all:
Proverbs 11:2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
Proverbs 16:2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits. Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man,but the end thereof are the ways of death.
The ARK was an absolute safe refuge
Genesis 7:10-16 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth. In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark; they, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort. And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
John 3:15 that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
John 10:28-29 and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

The Ark of Safety Part 3

ALL who entered the ARK were saved
Genesis 8:15-20 And God spake unto Noah, saying, Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee. Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him: every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark. And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
1 Cor 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
ALL who remained outside the ARK perished
Genesis 7:21-23 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: all in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
John 5:40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
1 John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
Then came a time when it was too late to enter
Genesis 7:16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
Matthew 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
Luke 13:25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
Proverbs 1:24-28 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; but ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; when your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

Days of Noah

Many wonder: Just how bad can it get!

The Lord Jesus warned how it will get before he returns and he compares it to the days of Noah.
Matthew 24:37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
The approximately 1600 years from Adam to Noah are recorded in Genesis 4-5.
The Lord Jesus continues:
Matthew 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
The Lord Jesus didn’t talk about all the wickedness, just commented that none seemed worried that the end was soon coming, just like today. But Genesis reveals just how bad it was.
Genesis 6:5-6 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
Has the world reached this point today? “every imagination of the thoughts…only evil continually”!
Genesis 6:11-12 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
Yes, man had become wicked, evil, corrupt, so indescribable that God had to destroy all flesh. But man thought all was okay and continued in his evil ways.

Matthew 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

This is the way it will be when the Lord Jesus returns to set up his kingdom. (Review The Future)
The question is “How Long, O Lord, How long?”

Come into the Ark

What Does Genesis 7:1 Mean?

Noah was invited into the ark.

Genesis 6-9 God was inside the Ark when He invited Noah to come into the Ark. God is with every believer. God still invites us today. Not into the Ark, but into his family and then into Heaven when we die. And it’s thru His Son, the Lord Jesus. By believing the Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and confessing that He is God (Romans 10:9).

In Noah’s time, anyone could have gotten into the Ark, and been saved from the flood. Just as in Noah’s time, God, the Lord Jesus Christ, is in Heaven, inviting all who will come. Today there is room at the Cross (salvation) for all who will come. AS the song says:

The First 2000 Years

The Bible helps us date the Earth by recording the life span of various people from the time God created Adam to Noah and the flood.

Genesis 5-9

5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth: Adam lived 930 years and had many sons and daughters (5:4-5). But the one being tracked is Seth who lived 912 years (5:12).

5:6 And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos: At 105 years Seth fathered Enos (and many other sons and daughters) and lived 905 years (5:11).

5:10 And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters: At 70 years Cainan fathered Mahalaleel (and many other sons and daughters) and lived 910 years (5:14).

5:15 And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared: At 65 years Mahalaleel fathered Jared (and many other sons and daughters) and lived 895 years (5:14).

5:19 And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: At 162 years Jared fathered Enoch (and many other sons and daughters) and lived 962 years (5:20).

5:21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: At 65 years Enoch fathered Methuselah (and many other sons and daughters) and lived 365 years (5:23). But Enoch never died, God took him (5:24) because he walked with God.

5:25 And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech. At 187 years Methuselah fathered Lamech (and many other sons and daughters) and lived 969 years (5:27).

5:28-29 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son: And he called his name Noah … At 182 years Lamech fathered Noah (and many other sons and daughters) and lived 777 years (5:31).

7:6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.

Methuselah died the year the flood came. Lamech also died before the flood came. Lamech was born when Methuselah was 187 and Noah was born when Lamech was 182. 187+182=369. And the age of Noah when the flood came, 600+369 = 969 the age when Methuselah died (the same year the flood came).

Lamech died before the flood. 182 when Noah was born, plus Noah’s age 600 when the flood came 182+600=782. Lamech lived 777 years, he died 5 years before the flood.
Thus the Godly line continued thru Noah.

When did the flood occur? When the age of each above named individual is added together plus 600 years of Noah’s life, the flood came about 1656 years after Adam was created. 130+105+90+70+65+162+65+187+182+600=1656

9:29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died. And Noah died 2006 years after creation (950-600=350) (350+1656=2006).

Noah’s Ark

Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah’s Ark .

  1. Don’t miss the boat.
  2. Remember that we are all in the same boat.
  3. Plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the Ark.
  4. Stay fit. When you’re 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
  5. Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
  6. Build your future on high ground.
  7. For safety sake, travel in pairs.
  8. Speed isn’t always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
  9. When you’re stressed, float a while.
  10. Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
  11. No matter the storm, when you have faith, there’s always a rainbow waiting.

Noah

GENESIS 6-10 Tells the story of Noah. How being called of God, he obeyed God and built an ark. He built it for the saving of all who would believe.

Noah is mentioned 9 times outside of the Book of Genesis.  In the list of generations, starting with Adam, he’s listed tenth from Adam:
1 Chronicles 1:4 Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
In Isaiah God repeats His oath NOT to flood the world again.
Isaiah 54:9 For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.
In Ezekiel,  God speaks of Noah’s righteousness:
Ezekiel 14:14 Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord God.
Ezekiel 14:20 Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.
During His earthly ministry, the Lord Jesus tells us of how the world will be before He returns:
Matthew 24:37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Luke 17:27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
The Apostle Paul writing to the Hebrews reminds of Noah’s faith and righteousness:
Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
And finally, Peter recalls the story of Noah and the flood;
1 Peter 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
2 Peter 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
