BUT GOD – New Testament: Gospels

Man, since the beginning has thought of himself as better than everything else, that his way was the right way. But the writer in proverbs has stated it best: Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Not only once but twice. Through out the holy scripture man has sought to go his own way, which always leads to destruction and death. BUT GOD has intervened which leads to an interesting Bible Study. “BUT GOD”. A search of the scripture finds BUT GOD occurring 43 times. 18 times in the Old Testament and 25 times in the New Testament. A study of each of these occurrences will show as man was going his way, which would lead unto death, God intervened to put man back on the right tract, a way which would not lead to death.
Yes, God has a purpose for mankind, a purpose which will lead to a better life here and an eternal life hereafter (if we will have faith in Him). And yes, God has a purpose for not only mankind but for each and every individual who will have Faith in Him.

In studying the BUT GOD’s found in the New Testament, the next mentions are in:

Yes, the religious leaders knew only God can forgive sin. Who then is Jesus claiming to be (they thought)?
Luke 12:20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
In this parable, the Lord Jesus teaches them GOD is in control.

BUT GOD of the Old Testament

Pin on Quotes, Words, Scriptures

Man, since the beginning has thought of himself as better than everything else, that his way was the right way. But the writer in proverbs has stated it best:

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

“BUT GOD”. A search of the scripture finds BUT GOD occurring 43 times: 18 times in the Old Testament and 25 times in the New Testament. A study of each of these occurrences will show as man was going his way, which would lead unto death, But God intervened to put man back on the right tract, a way which would not lead to death. Yes, God has a purpose for mankind, a purpose which will lead to a better life here and an eternal life hereafter (if we will have faith in Him). And yes, God has a purpose for not only mankind but for each and every individual who will have Faith in Him.

BUT GOD – Abimelech

In studying the BUT GOD’s found in the scripture, the first mention is in Genesis 20:3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife.
Reading the whole chapter gives an understanding of why God spoke to Abimelech in a dream. He wanted to add Sarah (Abraham’s wife) to his Harem which would have interfered in what God had in store for Abraham. Abimelech had a plan which seemeth right unto him BUT GOD intervened to save Abraham and Sarah.

BUT GOD – Jacob

The Second mention is in Genesis 31:7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me
The background to this BUT GOD starts back in Genesis 28 when Isaac tells Jacob to go to his mother’s family to seek a wife. There Jacob meets Rachel, the love of his life. But Laban (her father) tricks Jacob many times and might have caused even greater harm to Jacob, BUT GOD intervened.

BUT GOD – Joseph

The next mention(s) is in:
Genesis 45:8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.
Genesis 48:21 And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.
Genesis 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
This is the story of Joseph. Satan, the devil, tried to destroy this young man, BUT GOD intervened. His life story begins in Genesis 30 and ends in Genesis 50, and is a very good story of how God watched over him. Now we only want to see the BUT GOD direct interventions.

Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers at 17, has spent time in prison, and then risen to be second in command in Egypt (please read to whole story). Now his brothers have come to Egypt seeking Food (not knowing Joseph was alive). He reveals himself to them and of course guild for their actions over take them. He reminds them it was not them BUT GOD who brought him to Egypt. (Genesis 45:8) Later, Joseph gets reunited with his father, Israel (Jacob) and before his father dies, he reminds Joseph BUT GOD shall be with you.
(Genesis 48:21) Again, after his father, Israel dies, Joseph forgives his brothers by reminding them that even though they thought evil against, BUT GOD meant it unto good. To create the nation of Israel.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

God’s Secrets

Image result for secrets of god scripture

The Bible is God’s word to Man. And it is a progressive book. God did not reveal His secrets all at once but over many hundreds of Years.

The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. (Deuteronomy 29:29)
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. (Proverbs 25:2)
I would seek unto God,” Job said, “and unto God would I commit my cause: Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number (Job 5:8-9).
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable (Psalm 145:3).
Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite (Psalm 147:5).
…There is no searching of his understanding (Isaiah 40:28).
And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken. (Luke 18:34)
For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. (John 20:9)
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (1 Corinthians 2:9).
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33)
that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; (Ephesians 3:8).

In this age of Grace, God has revealed many secrets but again, not all of them. Daniel and John (Revelation) have recorded that there are some secrets yet to come.

Daniel 12:8-9 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
Revelation 10:4 And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.

God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob

Image result for abraham isaac jacob

Why does the Scripture refer to God as the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob/Israel?

The Lord Jesus used the phrase:
Matthew 22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
Mark 12:26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
Luke 20:37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
Peter speaking to the men of Israel used the phrase:
Acts 3:13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him …
Stephen quoted it in his defense of why he believed Jesus was the Messiah:
Acts 7:32 Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.
Why is it so important to mention all three men?
A study of Abraham in Genesis shows that God gave Promises, Covenants to Abraham and his seed. Abraham was the father of two (2) important men (and many other children Gen 25:1-3) Ishmael and Isaac. Ishmael was blessed by God and had many children, but was not in line for the Promises, Covenants. Isaac (the promised son) had two (2) sons, Easu and Jacob. Easu, although blessed of God was not in line for the Promises, Covenants. Jacob, later named by God, Israel was. He had twelve (12) sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel. All of the Promises, Covenants given to Abraham passed to Isaac and on to Jacob/Israel and the twelve sons who became the Jewish Nation.
Many peoples in the world, particularly the middle east can lay claim to being the children of Abraham through the blood of Ishmael or Abraham’s second wife Keturah, or through Isaac’s son Easu. But the Promises, Covenants, can only be claimed by the Jew, children who come through the line of ABRAHAM, ISAAC, and JACOB.

The Abrahamic Promises, Covenants DO NOT apply to the Church today. Our Promises come from the pen of the Apostle PAUL found in the epistles: Romans through Philemon. And they are only for those who believe the Gospel

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Death, Burial and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
God promised Abraham a land, a kingdom, a people and a king to reign forever and made a Covenant with him.
SEE: Genesis 12:1-3, 15:18, Exodus 19:5-8,
Deuteronomy 30:1-10, 2 Samuel 7:4-17
The Apostle Paul reminds the Hebrews (Jews) of Gods Covenant/Promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob/Israel: Hebrews 6:13-17, 11:9
The phrase “God of” appears 456 times.     23 times as “God of heaven”
201 times as “God of Israel” – 17 times as “God of Abraham” – 6 times “God of the Hebrews”

Job Job 19:26 And [though] after my skin [worms] destroy this [body], yet in my flesh shall I {see God}:
How about Ezra, and Nehemiah and Esther.
There is no mention of God in the Book of Ester, yet, God did a mighty work saving His people. Did she see God?

Ezekiel Ezekiel 1:1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth [month], in the fifth [day] of the month, as I [was] among the captives by the river of Chebar, [that] the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. (but did he see God?)
And Daniel was surely used of God. Did he see God? How about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace?
Daniel 3:23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery {furnace}. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, [and] spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, [and] spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come [hither]. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.

Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. believe me that I [am] in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

Why Does God Love Us?

God loves man even though humanity has turned their backs on God and has chosen a life of sin instead. Though God can forgive sin, He cannot allow it. Sin is an abomination unto Him.  Men with all their knowledge could not begin to comprehend how it is possible that an almighty God would give His love to evil men. His love is an undeserved and unearned love that man has no right to. Some men wonder how a loving God could send innocent people to hell, but the question is how He couldn’t? Man is not innocent, he is born a wicked sinner. Every soul starting with Adam deserves to burn in Hell. Man’s definition of what is just has been so confused by the world’s lenience in their judicial system. Men are taught to believe that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. In reality all men are guilty and cannot be proven innocent. Humans are born with a sin nature and completely unworthy of such a love that God would sacrifice His only son to die for them. 2 Corinthians 13:11 portrays God as the God of love and peace. It is truly impossible that such a perfect God could even care for a sinful man, but the Bible tells us that God loves all men. The Bible then being the final authority, is not mistaken when it states that, “God so loved the world” (John 3:16). The question then remains; why does God love man?

We can only find the answer to that question if we first answer the question, who is God? The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines God as “a Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe.” God is not human, many people try to relate God to man, but in reality He is absolutely nothing like them. “God is not man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent.” (Numbers 23:19a) God has always existed, and always will exist. God’s qualities are so intensified that humans cannot comprehend them.
