THE BIBLE God’s Book

The Bible is a Revelation from God, of the falloff man, the way of salvation and God’s plan and purpose for the ages. It speaks of:
Four Persons: God the father, God the Soin, God the Holy Spiri and Satan
Three Places: Earth, Heaven, Hell
Three classes of people: Jew, Gentile and Believers
The Scriptures were given to man a little at a time, “at sundry times and in diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophetsHebrews 1:1, “… holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.2 Peter 1:21 during a period of 1600 years, from 1492 BC to 100 AD. There are 66 books, 39 Old Testament, 27 New Testament. The books wee written by about 40 different authors. By Kings, David and Solomon, by statesmen, Daniel and Nehemiah, by priests, Ezra, by Moses, raised by Egyptians, by herdsmen, Amos, prophets Isaiah, Ezekiel and Zechariah, a tax collector, Matthew, fisherman, Peter, James and John who “were unlearned and ignorantActs 4:13, a man well versed in Jewish Law, Saul (Paul).
The Old and New Testaments were not separate and distinct books, but rather are two halves of a whole. The New in “enfolded” in the Old, and the Old is “unfolded” in the New. One cannot understand Leviticus without Hebrews, or Daniel without Revelation or Isaiah 53 without the Gospels. Hidden in the Old Revealed in the New.
Three kinds of language in the Bible: Figurative, Symbolical and Literal. Such expressions as “Harden not your heart” are Figurative, there meaning is made clear by the context. Symbolic language like the description of Nebuchadnezzars’ “Colossus”, Daniel’s “four wild beasts” or Christ in the midst of the “seven candlesticks” are explained either in the same chapter or elsewhere in Scripture. Literal are true statements as “the true gospel is the Death, Burial and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus”.
Three things that must be avoided when handled in God’s word:
Misinterpretation of Scripture
Misapplication of Scripture
Dislocation of Scripture
We must not overlook the “Parable” form of imparting truth. In the Gospels it is used as a “Mystery Form” of imparting truth. Matthew 13:10-13 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
The Old Testament is preparation for Christ; The Gospels Manifest Him to the world; In Acts He is preached and His Gospel Propagated; in the epistles His gospel is explained; and in Revelation all the purposes of God through Christ are consummated.

Sodom and Gomorrah

The story of the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah can be found in Genesis 10-19.
Nine other Old Testament Books also refer to these evil cities:
Deuteronomy, 1 Kings, 2 Kings , Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Amos andZephaniah.
And yet many today deny that these cities every existed. “It’s a Myth”. “Where’s evidence?” Is their cry.
First of all, The Scriptures are the true word of God. Second look what the Lord Jesus (GOD) had to say about the two evil cities:
Matthew 10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Matthew 11:23-24 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
Mark 6:11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Luke 10:12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
Luke 17:29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
The apostle Paul writes:
Romans 9:29 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorra.
The apostle Peter writes:
2 Peter 2:6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
And Jude writes:
Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
And the apostle John, writing about the 7 year Tribulation:
Revelation 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
SO, either the Scriptures and the Lord Jesus and the Apostles are all LIARS, or there actually was two wicked, evil cities named Sodom and Gomorrha, that God destroyed.

Death, Burial, Resurrection

The Apostle Paul, in his epistles explains THE GOSPEL and the way of Salvation:

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
He was the Apostle to the gentiles:
Romans 11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles,
When we believe the Gospel and follow Romans 10:9-13 we experience SALVATION.
But James, Peter, John and Jude writing to Jewish believers hardly mention these subjects, let alone put them together:
DEATH:
James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
James 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth indeath.
1 John 5:16-17 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
BURIAL: Never Mentioned
RESURRECTION:

1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
And what about the Cross?
The Apostle Paul also has much to say about the cross:
1 Corinthians 1:17-18 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
Galatians 5:11 And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
Galatians 6:12 As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
Galatians 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Ephesians 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross , having slain the enmity thereby:
Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross .
Philippians 3:18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross , by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross ;
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross , despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
But James, Peter, John and Jude writing to Jewish believers
never mention the Cross.

Forgive

God told Israel:
Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
Hebrews 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Because Christ went to the Cross, suffered and died, Believers have forgiveness, and once saved (1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 10:9-13) ever have to ask forgiveness for sin again.
Read what the apostle writes:
Romans 4:7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Colossians 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Since believers are forgive, we should have forgiveness in our hearts:
2 Corinthians 2:7 So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
2 Corinthians 2:10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;
2 Corinthians 12:13 For what is it wherein ye were inferior to other churches, except it be that I myself was not burdensome to you? forgive me this wrong.
As a Believer YOU have been forgiven of ALL your sins.

Theophany

An appearance of God to a human; a divine manifestation. Theophanies don’t always mean God appears in the form of a man. He can sometimes manifest Himself in fire or a tempest or a still small voice.
A few examples:
Genesis 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
Genesis 18:1-15 The three visitors visit Abraham and Sarah by the great tree of Mamre.
Genesis 26:2 (Isaac) And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
Genesis 32:24-30 Another example of God appearing on earth is when Jacob wrestles the angel
Exodus 3 Moses and The Burning Bush
Exodus 6:2-3 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
Exodus 13:20-22 Pillar of Cloud and Fire
Exodus 24:9-10 Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.
Numbers 12:6-8 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
Numbers 22:22-35 Balaam and His Ass
Joshua 5:13-15 Commander of the Lord’s Army Appears to Joshua
Judges 10 Gideon and The angel of the Lord
Judges 13 The Angel of the Lord Visits Manoah and His Wife
1 Kings 19:12 “still small voice” that spoke to Elijah in the cave
Ezekiel 40:3 And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate.
Daniel 3:16-28 The Fourth Man in the Fire
Daniel 10–12 Daniel’s Visions
Job 38:1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
Zechariah 1:7-17 Zechariah’s visions
These are but a few examples found in Scripture.
Some could teach that the LAST Theophany would be Jesus of Nazareth, as He was/is God.
Some teach that Theophanies still occur today. But according to Scripture, the way God speaks to Believers today is THROUGH HIS WRITTEN WORD!

Hebrews 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Tower of Babel

Is this what the tower looked like?

Read Genesis 11:1-9. The Hebrew word translated “tower” could represent any large monolith, obelisk or pyramid.
As we read in Genesis, from the Flood until then, many years have passed, the people had multiplied so much that they were afraid they would scatter over the earth: Vs 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Which is what God had instructed them to do (Genesis 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth).

Vs 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

The Lord caused them to speak in different languages, forcing them to separate into groups and flee to other parts of the earth. Did He also change physical features, color of skin, slanting of eyes, etc.?

Pyramids are found in Egypt, they exist today. Many have visited them. Are these copies of the original Tower of Babel? Attempts to worship false gods?

Remember 11:9 … scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

Archeologists are finding Pyramids in many other parts of the world:
Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru just to name a few. And these are documented on a TV program:
EXPEDITION UNKNOWN, hosted by Archeologist Josh Gates.

As God spread the people across the earth, it appears they took their false gods with them and constructed Pyramids (Towers) to continue their false worship. Meanwhile God focused on One Man, Abram, Genesis 12, and one nation (to be) Israel.

So, was it really the Pyramid of Babel?

Or could the Tower looked more like this?

The Gospel

Not found in the Old Testament. The word gospel is derived from the Anglo-Saxon term god-spell, meaning “good story,” a rendering of the Latin evangelium and the Greek euangelion, meaning “good news” or “good telling.” Since the late 18th century, the first three, Matthew, Mark and Luke have been called the Synoptic Gospels.

Tower Part 2

A Tower the Israelites built

Some things about the Tower of Babel:
The tower of Babel was built in the plain in Shinar. Shinar is the Hebrew name for Babylonia. The Tower of Babel was the world’s first skyscraper, as well as a symbol of the might and hubris of the ancient city of Babylon. The enormous building, mentioned in the Bible, has fascinated generation upon generation, although everyone has their own image of what it once looked like.
Historians have only been able to agree on one thing:
The tower was said to reach up to the sky.

The Tower of Babel stood at the very heart of the vibrant metropolis of Babylon in what is today Iraq. It was a city of open squares, broad boulevards and narrow, winding lanes. But the City of Cities, as Babylon was known by the Ancients, eventually fell into ruin. And the residents of Babylon plundered the Tower of Babel and used its bricks to build their own houses.

It was aerial photography, however, that provided the first real clues as to the location of the tower. The photographs show the tower’s square-shaped outline in the center of the city Genesis 11:4 …let us build us a city and a tower,.. .
Today, nothing remains but a watering hole. The Tower was said to be almost 100 meters tall and was dedicated to Babylon’s own God, Marduk.

There are 43 references to Towers in Scripture:
(some references are speaking of God)
Genesis 11:4-4 The Tower of Babel.
Genesis 35:21 The Tower of Edar.
Judges 8:9,17 The Tower of Penuel.
Judges 9:46-47,49,1-51 The Tower of Shechem.
2 Kings 5:24, 9:17, 17:9, 18:8 The Tower in Jezreel.
2 Chronicles 20:24 A watch Tower in the wilderness.
Nehemiah 3:1 The Tower of Meah, the Tower of Hananeel.
Nehemiah 3:11 The Tower of the furnaces
Nehemiah 3:25-27 Speaks of a Tower.
Nehemiah 12:38-39 Tells more of these Towers.
Song of Solomon 4:4 … like the tower of David builded for an armoury…
Isaiah 2:15, 5:2 speaks of high Tower
Jeremiah 6:67 (an example) Jeremiah 31:38 The Tower of Hananeel.
Ezekiel 29:10, 30:6 The Tower of Syene.
Zechariah 14:1 The Tower of Hananeel.

The Lord Jesus speaks of towers in His Parables:
Matthew 21:31, Mark 12:1, Luke 14:28
And in Luke 13:4 … upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, …

Some of these were actual Towers, some were buildings on high hills, and others were…?
