Jesus of Nazareth Part 2

Approximately 2000 years ago a man appeared and made claims about himself, such as “He was the Son of God”. The Scripture records some of the other claims He made:
John 6:35 … I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
John 8:12 … I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
John 11:25 … I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
John 8:23 … I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
John 8:58 … I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
John 14:6 … I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
For a man to claim all these things about himself, he must fall into one of three categories:
1 – He is a LIAR
2 – He is a Lunatic
3 – He is what he says he is, the Son of God.
If either of the first two are true, we can ignore him and throw out the Scriptures.
But if the 3 is true, we owe Him our love and worship.

Thot: If Christ is the way, why waste time traveling some other way!

Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Ambassador

an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country.
a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity.

Ephesians 6:20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

This is true of all those who accept the Death, Burial and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus, know Him to be God. At death, believers are acceptable in the heavenlies but we are left here on earth to be Ambassadors.

1. To share the Faith with our family, friends and even our foes.

2. To see others become believers.

3. To live a life that honors our God.

And we will be rewarded (1 Corinthians 3:11-16) for our efforts.

2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

How Long Do We Have?

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.”
“A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.”
“From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”
“The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the
beginning of history, has been about 200 years.”
“During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:”

1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
3. From courage to liberty;
4. From liberty to abundance;
5. From abundance to complacency;
6. From complacency to apathy;
7. From apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to over twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

Letters of Paul

The Destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. was very important in the early church time period, and that the New Testament shows evidence of being written before that date.

The Apostle Paul wrote letters to the churches he had established during his missionary journeys. He also wrote several personal letters. They were written in many cases to answer questions they had and to remind them of what he had taught them. Remember, these were letters and they did not have chapters and verses. These were added many years later as an aid to study them. Also, Paul never knew he was writing part of the New Testament.

Dates and order of letters are best estimates.

The Most High

The Gentiles referred to God as the Most High. Later the Jews when dealing with Gentiles also referred to God as the Most High. This term means “there is none higher”.

Before Israel: Abram (Abraham) meets with Melchizedek.
Genesis 14:18-22 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all. …And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
After Israel came out of Egypt: Balaam (the false prophet)
Numbers 24:16 He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
Moses, speaking to all of Israel:
Deuteronomy 32:8 When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.
David praises God:
2 Samuel 22:14 The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.
The Psalmist(s) refer to God as the most High:
Psalm 21:7 For the king trusteth in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.
Psalm 46:4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
Psalm 47:2 For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.
Psalm 50:14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
Psalm 56:2 Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.
Psalm 57:2 I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.
Psalm 73:11 And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
Psalm 77:10 And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.
Psalm 78:17 And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.
Psalm 78:56 Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:
Psalm 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
Psalm 83:18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.
Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
Psalm 92:1 It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:
Psalm 92:8 But thou, LORD, art most high for evermore.
Psalm 107:11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:

Paradise

look at Paradise:
The thief on a Cross Next to the Lord said to the other thief “Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss”. And because of this: Luke 23:43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

Paradise was a place (in the center of the earth) where the souls of believers in God went when they died. (see Luke 16:19-31 and Ephesians 4:9-10).

Apparently, the Lord took Paradise up to Heaven when he arose from the dead. Paul writes of

it being in the third heaven: 2 Corinthians 12:4 How he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

And the ascended Lord Jesus refers to it: Revelation 2:7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”

Notice also the Tree of Life, first mentioned in Genesis 3:24 is now in Heaven (Revelation 22:14).

Shroud of Turin

The Shroud of Turin is a centuries old linen cloth that bears the image of a crucified man. A man that millions believe to be Jesus of Nazareth. Turin is in northwest Italy. The Shroud of Turin, also called Holy Shroud, Italian Santa Sindone, a length of linen that for centuries was purported to be the burial garment of Jesus Christ. It has been preserved since 1578 in the royal chapel of the cathedral of San Giovanni Battista in Turin, Italy. It measures 4.3 metres (14 feet 3 inches) long and 1.1 metres (3 feet 7 inches) wide, it seems to portray two faint brownish images, those of the back and front of a gaunt, sunken-eyed, 5-foot 7-inch man—as if a body had been laid lengthwise along one half of the shroud while the other half had been doubled over the head to cover the whole front of the body from face to feet. The images contain markings that allegedly correspond to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus, including thorn marks on the head, lacerations (as if from flogging) on the back, bruises on the shoulders, and various stains of what is presumed to be blood.

The Scripture says:
John 20:1-7 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

There were TWO, separate cloths, one for the head and one for the body.
Not sure what the Shroud of Turin is BUT it is NOT an image of the Lord Jesus Christ.

A final thought: Turin is in Italy, the Lord Jesus was crucified on a hill in Jerusalem, Israel.

It’s Your Choice

How you live your life is YOUR choice. You can live a good life or an evil wicked life or anything in between. Deny what the scripture says insures that you will spend eternity separated from God.

What is taught about God?
HE is Eternal and the Creator

Life is short and full of trouble
What is taught about God’s anger?
It is powerful and consuming
What is taught about avoiding God’s anger?
Have Faith in Him (to be saved believe in Christ)
What did the Psalmist want God to teach him?
To number (use wisely) his days
Think about your remaining Days..
A Teen thinks he has lots of time left…
A Young Adult also thinks lots of time left…
A middle Ager starts to think about what lies ahead ….
An Older person starts to think, How Long?
How does God satisfy a persons need?
By providing his deep needs for forgiveness, for salvation, security, stability, purpose and meaning to life!
