Jude 1:1 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
Read Genesis 4 for the story of Cain.
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD…
⇒ First human born (his parents were created).
⇒ A tiller of the ground (farmer).
⇒ Did things HIS way (disobedient).
⇒ Was Jealous of his brother, and angry.
⇒ A murderer (killed his younger brother).
⇒ Lied to God.
That sums up the way of Cain. He knew God. He talked with God. And he still disobeyed God.
Cain is spoken of 3 times in the New Testament.
Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
1 John 3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
Jude 1:11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
