The first use of “MY PEOPLE” referring to Israel by God is found in Exodus 3:7 when God is speaking to Moses. God continues to refer to Israel as “MY PEOPLE” all through the books of Moses.
Then again in Samuel the Lord God refers to Israel as “MY People”:
1 Samuel 2:29, 9:16-17, 2 Samuel 5:2, 7:7-11.
Also in Kings: 1 Kings 6:13, 8:16, 14:7, 16:2, 2 Kings 20:5.
Chronicles continues to record God’s word of “MY PEOPLE”.
1 Chronicles 11:2, 17:6-10, 2 Chronicles 1:11, 6:5-6, 7:13-14.
The book of Psalm has 10 references: Psalm 14:4, 50:7, 53:4, 59:11, 68:22, 78:1, 81:8,11,13, 144:2.
Isaiah records 26 references to God referring to Israel as “MY PEOPLE”.
Jeremiah has 43 references. Lamentations 2:11, 3:14,48, 4:3,6,10.
Ezekiel has 26 references.
Joel 2:26-27; 3:2-3, Amos 7:8,15; 8:2; 9:10,14, Obadiah 1:13, Micah 1:9; 2:4,8-9 3:3,5; 6:3,5,16, Zephaniah 2:8-9, Zechariah 2:11; 8:7-8; 13:9.
In Hosea, the Lord God continues to refer to Israel as my people but because of their rebellion (sin) He also says of them, you are NOT MY PEOPLE.
The New Testament has 4 references to “MY PEOPLE”.
Matthew 2:6 (quotes Genesis 49:10)
Acts 7:34 (quotes Exodus 3:5-7)
Romans 9:25-26 (quotes Hosea 2:13)
Revelation 18:4 (quotes Isaiah 48:20)
All of these are referring to Israel. Never does the Lord refer to the Church (saved Believers) as “MY PEOPLE”. Believers are part of the Body (of Christ). Also Body of Christ (The Church).
Many today cite 2 Chronicles 7:14 as a promise to the Church. Although the application is there, this is a PROMISE to Israel. Believers DO NOT have a land in this world. Our home is in HEAVEN.
