The Ten Commandments

Exodus 20 – Restated in Deuteronomy 5

These commandments were written by the finger of God Himself
(Exodus 24:12, 31:18) on Mount Sinai while they were on their way to the promised land (Exodus 19:1). While Moses was gone, the people had Aaron mold a calf of Gold to worship. When Moses returned and learned of this he smashed the stone tablets. Later (Exodus 34:1) New tablets were made and written upon by the Lord.

The first 4 were the children of Israel’s relationship to God. The last 6 are their relationship with each other.

Obeying the Ten Commandments will not save anyone, but they will produce a good life.

Read the account of the young man, who had great possessions,
(Matthew 19:16-22, Mark 10:17-22). Upon proclaiming he had obeyed and had observed all commandments from his youth, Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
