American Holidays Part 2

New Year’s Day was celebrated for the first time in 45 B.C., when the Julian calendar first took effect.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was established as a holiday in cities and states throughout the United States beginning in 1971; the holiday was enacted at the federal level by legislation signed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986.

Washington’s Birthday was the first Federal holiday to honor an individual’s birth date. In 1885, Congress designated February 22 as a holiday for all Federal workers. In 1970, To give federal employees a three-day weekend, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act moved it to the third Monday in February, which can occur from February 15 to the 21st. The day soon became known as President’s Day.

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season.

Juneteenth was first celebrated in Texas in 1866. Freed men, women and children gathered in rural communities and freedom colonies to rejoice with parades, dances, hallelujahs, feasts, music. Jun 17, 2021 it will be the United States’ 11th federal holiday, joining the ranks of President’s Day and Thanksgiving, and the first new one created since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was established in 1983.

Independence Day also called Fourth of July or July 4th, in the United States, the annual celebration of nationhood. It commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.

Labor day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the first Monday in September to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. President Grover Cleveland signed a bill into law on June 28, 1894.

Columbus Day a federal holiday in the United States, which officially celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas on October 12, 1492. Was signed as federal holiday by President Johnson on June 28, 1968, to be effective beginning in 1971.

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on November 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1954, President Eisenhower signed legislation establishing November 11th as Veterans Day.

Thanksgiving Day the earliest celebration was held in 1578. In 1870, Congress passed legislation making Thanksgiving (along with Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Independence Day) a national holiday. However, unlike the other holidays in the bill, the President had the discretion to set the date for Thanksgiving. With few exceptions, each President until Franklin D. Roosevelt followed Lincoln’s lead by declaring the last Thursday of November a National Day of Thanks.

Christmas Day is celebrated every December 25th, and has been a federal holiday since 1885. In the Middle Ages, Christmas celebrations were rowdy and raucous—a lot like today’s Mardi Gras parties. Christ’s birth is traditionally celebrated in the West on December 25th, but many Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas on January 7. Neither date is likely correct in light of several clues uncovered by historians and information in the Bible itself.

Babbling

Tower of Babble

Genesis 10:10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
Genesis 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

Defination: the action or fact of talking rapidly and continuously in a foolish, excited, or incomprehensible way.

Proverbs 23:29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
Ecclesiastes 10:11 Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.

The “WISE” men of Paul’s day considered him a babble when he presented them with the way of salvation “Death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus”. But history has proven they were the Babblers.
Acts 17:18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

The Apostle Paul warned Timothy to avoid, shun profane and vain babblings.
1 Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
2 Timothy 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

And we too should avoid and shun these vain babblings as they come from many pulpits today, as they deny the “Death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus”.

The Lord’s Supper

Communion

1 Corinthians 11:23-26 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

The Apostle Paul instructs the church at Corinth how to partake of the Lord’s supper. And the local Church has followed this ever since. How often it should be observed is not stated. Some do it weekly, some monthly, some quarterly, some once or twice a year and some, every time they gather. None of these are wrong as long as they do it to “shew the Lord’s death till he come”.
What is interesting is where Paul got these instructions from. He could not have gone to the Gospels to see what they had written (Matthew 26:26, Mark 14:22) because they had not yet been written. So where did Paul get these instructions? Look at 1 Corinthians 11:23 again, “For I have received of the Lord…”.
He received it directly from the Lord Jesus.
As one partakes of Communion REMEMBER it is done to “shew the Lord’s death till he come”. Yes, He Died, was Buried, Rose again and ascended into Heaven. And soon He is coming again.

True Church

What is the One True Church? (many ekklēsía one sṓma) - BibleTruths

Not all roads lead to Heaven, there is only one way. When the Church is mentioned it is wise to remember there are three views.

  1. The Universal Church: Consists of all who people who profess to be Christian.
  2. The Local Church: The building where these individuals meet.
  3. The True Church: Only those who are Saved, and will be caught up in the rapture. (The body of Christ).

Evangelism

So You Missed an Opportunity to Share Your Faith . . .

In view of what we believe, we should be willing to share our faith with others and try to point the to the way of salvation. This includes speaking to Family and friends, as the Holy Spirit leads, to their need of Salvation. And of course supporting Missions and the local Church.

Psalm 105:1 O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Time – One Year Part 2

Not sure who, but someone merely went to the Bible and began reading Genesis 1, Lo and Behold:

In the beginning TIME God FORCE created MOTION the heaven SPACE and the earth MATTER

God knew all about these 5 great basic principles long before man discovered them. In fact, God even recorded them.

Because it’s the beginning of a New Year, let’s consider TIME. God created it, Man uses it. We even get our time from the stars. Man’s watches do not keep perfect time, but God’s creation does.
Look at what His Word has to say about time.
Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Romans 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Ephesians 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Ephesians 5:16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2 Thessalonians 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

Revelation 10:6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
Revelation 21:22-27 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Time is at Hand Part 2

But does it really work? Does changing the outside really change who or what we really are? You be the Judge. In Matthew 25:14-30 the Lord Jesus uses a parable to teach a lesson.
The Time is at Hand”.
Vs 14 A man and his 3 servants.
Vs 15 Gave each talents according to their ability.
Vs 16-18 Each servant did what he wanted with the talents.
Vs 19 “The Time is at Hand”.
Vs 20-21 The 1st receives his reward.
Vs 22-23 The 2nd receives his reward.
Notice the rewards are based on faithfulness, not on amount accomplished.
Vs 24-30 The 3rd receives his reward.
The Time is at Hand”.
Not much can be done about last year… Review it, confess your failures, ask God’s forgiveness. Now is the time to look forward to a new year. Let’s endeavor to walk closer to our savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Putting Him first in all things. Now this doesn’t mean an outward change, although good, it means an inward change, a change of heart, attitude.
The apostle Paul states it this way, Colossians 4:5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
Remember “The Time is at Hand”.

Whether the new year brings you face to face with God, via death, or via the blessed Hope, the rapture or next year reviewing the past and looking forward, let’s redeem the time be active in serving God.
Remember “The Time is at Hand”.

The Lord Jesus said, (John 5:28-29) Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Remember “The Time is at Hand”.

Time – Radio Message Part 2

THE YEAR has begun … For our medication we are considering TIME! We began yesterday (which is already PAST, GONE), whatever we did, whatever happened cannot be undone! We cannot reclaim even a moment of that time. Did you use it wisely?
We can’t change what was done, but we can control what’s coming.
There is still 361 ½ days left … 8,679 hours to be used.
How much TIME do you give to God?
Unfortunately, most of us will use our time unwisely.

Have you ever heard someone say “just a second”? Perhaps you have even said it. Just how long is a Second (1/60 of a minute). Not a very long time, is it?
But that’s a lot longer than it’s going to take for the Lord Jesus to return for His Saints (Believers).
Consider what the Scripture says:
1 Thessalonians 4:13-17, 1 Corinthians 15:51-53
Yes, just a second, a moment, a twinkling of the eye …
Are you ready? Will you be ready?
Why not take a second, a second look at the claims of Christ, and trust Him as your Lord and Saviour.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 10:9.
How much TIME do you give to God?

Time – Radio Message Part 3

Each morning this week we have been considering TIME. Having just entered into a new year, many of us thin we have all the time in the world to accomplish all the things we have planned.
BUT, consider: winter is almost over, then comes spring cleaning, taking down storm windows, golf, trout season, soon school will be over, vacation time, arm (hot) days, picnics, camping, swimming and before long back to school, leaves changing, raking, hunting season, storm windows up, the first snow, Thanksgiving, and the Christmas season.
In just a moment of time, the whole year has flashed through our thoughts.
Well, there is only 360 ½ days left … 8,655 hours to be used.
How much TIME do you give to God?
Of those hours, 2,880 are going to be used sleeping.
2,040 hours spent at work (based on 40-hour work week).
That leaves 3,735 hours left to do what you want to do. That’s only 155 days. Boy where does time go?
How much TIME do you give to God?
Could I suggest giving God 7 minutes a day? Here’s some tips on how to give God 7 minutes a day:
Have a regular prayer time.
Be flexible (some times you will have to alter your schedule).
Be willing to sacrifice, but keep your 7 minutes.
Don’t become discouraged (God is always there).
1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing. At least 7 minutes a day.
