Mount Bethel

Bethel appears to be a mountain, very important in the life of Jacob.
Genesis 12:8, 13:3, 28:19, 31:13, 35:1-15

Joshua also deals with the area. Joshua 7:2, 8:9,12,17, 12:9,16, 18:13:22

Joshua 16:1 And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, unto the water of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goeth up from Jericho throughout mount Bethel,

Judges records events at Bethel. Judges 1:22-23, 4:5, 21:19

And in 1 Samuel 7:16 And he (Samuel) went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.

Mount Amana

A mountain beyond Jordan, in the tribe of Manasseh. It was situated near Cilicia, and which divided it from Syria.

Song of Solomon 4:8 Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.

Many Mountains


As Joshua lead the Israelites in taking the promise land, they would pass over and around the many mountians:

Joshua 11:2-3 And to the kings that were on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west, And to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.
Joshua 11:16 So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;
Joshua 11:21 And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities.

Hill of Hachilah


A hill in the wilderness of Judah, associated with the wanderings of David. Where he hid himself from King Saul.

1 Samuel 23:19 Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?
1 Samuel 26:1 And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?
1 Samuel 26:3 And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

Hill of Gaash

The name of a hill in Israel, in the mountainous region of Ephraim, mentioned several times in Scripture. It is mentioned as a place of torrent valleys, which may refer to ravines in the vicinity.

Joshua 24:30 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.

Judges 2:9 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.

Hill of God

Samuel blesses Saul to become Israel’s King (1 Samuel 9-10)
1 Samuel 10:5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:

Psalm 15:1 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

Psalm 24:3-4 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

Psalm 68:15 The hill of God is as the hill of Bashan; an high hill as the hill of Bashan.

Hill of Bashan


Bashan, country frequently cited in the Old Testament and later important in the Roman Empire; it is located in what is now Syria. Bashan was the northernmost of the three ancient divisions of eastern Palestine, and in the Old Testament it was proverbial for its rich pastures and thick forests.\

Numbers 21:33 And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and og the king of bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at edrei.

Deuteronomy 3:1 Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

Mount Zion

Also called Mount Sion

152 references to Zion. Some to an area, others to the City, which is also called Jerusalem.
Mount Zion is the place where the God of Israel, dwells (Isaiah 8:18; Psalm 74:2), the place where he is king (Isaiah 24:23) and where he has installed his king, David (Psalm 2:6).

Rahab sent the two spies: (interesting, 3 days! Why not or 4 or 5?)
Joshua 2:16 And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.

Mount Sion

A hill in Jerusalem, on which the Temple was built: used to symbolize the city itself

Matthew 21:5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
John 12:15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.
