Comfort Part 2

Then Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit gave us other thoughts on when and how we are comforted:
Romans 1:12That is, that I may be comforted together with you …

1 Corinthians 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
1 Corinthians 14:31For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
2 Corinthians 1:6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
2 Corinthians 2:7 So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
2 Corinthians 7:4 Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

Hope Part 2

Hope is found 53 times in the New Testament:

Luke (1), Acts (8), Romans (10), 1 Corinthians (3), 2 Corinthians (3), Galatians (1), Ephesians (3), Philippians (2), Colossians (3), 1 Thessalonians (4), 2 Thessalonians (1), 1 Timothy (1), Titus (3), Hebrews (5), 1 Peter (4), 1 John (1)

And perhaps the best HOPE for believers is found in Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Paul was looking for that BLESSED HOPE in his life time. The Rapture. He wrote about it in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18;  and in 1 Corinthians 15:50-53 he tells about the new body we will have. One like the risen Lord Jesus Christ, Flesh and Bone, no blood.

In deed the best hope for all believers, the coming of the Lord Jesus for all his saints.

THAT BLESSED HOPE.

Joy

Jesus Others and You

Joy is: Being in God’s will
Being Faithful
Being a fruitful Branch
Being a Soul Winner

Fullness of Joy Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Shall reap in Joy Psalm 126:5-6 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

The Lord Jesus used Parables to teach about Joy:
Enter into the Joy of the Lord Matthew 25:21,23 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord…. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

He spoke to His Apostles where their joy would come from:
Joy may be full John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

The Lord Jesus warned His Apostles sorrow was coming BUT it would be turned into Joy:
Sorrow shall be turned to Joy John 16:19-22 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
And it still applies today. When we believe in the death, burial and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4), and confess that Jesus is God (Romans 10:9) sorrow is lifted. And each time we feel low, sorrow, all we need to is take it to Him in Prayer in faith, trusting is Him. As Paul wrote:
1 Timothy 2:1-5 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Doubt

A cartoon illustration is confused by a pile of questions ...
Noun – a feeling of uncertainty or lack of conviction.
Verb – feel uncertain about.

DOUBT – Many a young believer will doubt their salvation, especially when they sin, when things are falling apart all around them. This is a device of the devil. God would not have us DOUBT our salvation. First of all, Salvation is based on belief not works. Belief in the death, Burial and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:2-4 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And second, our acting on that belief as stated in Romans:
Romans 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Paul mentioned doubt in his epistles; (read them in context to understand them).
Romans 14:1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
1 Corinthians 9:10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.
2 Corinthians 12:1 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
Galatians 4:20 I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.
Philippians 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
1 Timothy 2:8 I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

As a believer we should never doubt our salvation or the word of God. God said it and that settles it.

TONGUES – Part 4

Every Knee Will Bow | Before The Cross

If only the tongue was used today for what Paul says it will do on judgement day: Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
Philippians 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Peter quotes David praising God: Acts 2:26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
Other mentions of the tongue as a languge Acts 1:19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.
Acts 21:40 And when he had given him licence, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,
Acts 22:2 (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)
Acts 26:14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
Again John writes of togues in the future as a people: Revelation 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
Revelation 10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
Revelation 11:9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
Revelation 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Revelation 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
Since they did not use their tongue to praise God,
Revelation 16:10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,
One more reference, during the Tribulation. Revelation 9:11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

TONGUES – Part 2

Another occurrence of this sign is recorded in Acts 10 when Peter went to the (gentile) house of Cornelius. This occurrence of tongues appears to be a language that the Jews who accompanied Peter understood. It was to show the Jew that God was opening the door of Salvation to the Gentile. Acts 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Another occurrence of this sign is Acts 19 when Paul was dealing with Jews who had not heard of the working of the Holy Spirit. Notice it doesn’t say unknown tongues. Acts 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

James, Peter and John write to the Jews about the tongue(s) but only how they should use it (and it has nothing to do with unknown tongues):

James 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
James 3:5-6 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
1 Peter 3:10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
And John writing about future mentions tongues (as a language). Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; Revelation 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Revelation 16:16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

TONGUES – Part 3

Speaking in Tongues - 10 Things to Know From the Bible

(Please read all scripture in context)

Paul gives further use of speaking in tongues (other languages); there are liars:
Romans 3:13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
Paul gives instruction of the use of this gift:
1 Corinthians 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 1 Corinthians 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? 1 Corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
1 Corinthians 14:5-6 I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
1 Corinthians 14:18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
1 Corinthians 14:21-23 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? 1 Corinthians 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

Can We Speak in Tongues Today?

TONGUES

What are tongues? Should we speak in Tongues? What does the Bible say?

Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

There were Jews in Jerusalem from all over the Roman empire to celebrate the Passover. They all spoke the language (tongue) of the countries they came from. (Acts 2:5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.)
And they heard the (120) disciples speak in their own language. (Acts 2:6-8 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

And what languages (tongues) did they hear? (Acts 2:9-11 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.)
The speaking in other tongues (languages) was of God, and it was sign to these Jews that God was again trying to reach them as a Nation. And the result?
(Acts 2:12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?)

Paul writes to the Church in Corinthians about use and misuse of unknown tongues. The Corinthians had many problems and tongues was one of them. (It didn’t appear to be a problem anywhere else.) The following text address the problem. 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 1 Corinthians 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. 1 Corinthians 14:9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air. 1 Corinthians 14:13-14 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 1 Corinthians 14:19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. 1 Corinthians 14:26-27 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
NOTE: the word, unknown, is in italitics. This means it was NOT in the original, but added by the translators, hopefully to help understand the text.
