Names of God

In the Old Testament there are many names for God. (Some say there are over 70 names, each having to do with God’s relationship to Israel). But just looking at some names we use in the Church today:

The name ‘Jesus‘ comes from Hebrew origins Yeshua or Yeshua.

Christ the Greek translation of the Hebrew word rendered “Messiah” which is equivalent to the Hebrew word translated “Anointed One.”

Messiah comes from the Hebrew word mashiach and means “anointed one” or “chosen one.” The Greek equivalent is the word Christos or, in English, Christ.

Emmanuel means “God with us” In the Old Testament it occurs only in Isaiah 7:14 and 8:8
Sometimes translated Immanuel.

Joshua comes from the Hebrew name “Yehoshua,” meaning “God is deliverance.”

Yeshua (transliterated in the English Old Testament as Jeshua), is a late form of the Biblical Hebrew name Yehoshua (Joshua),

Yehoshua is derived from yeho (meaning God) and shua (meaning to deliver or save). The letter Y was changed to an I in Latin and Greek and became a J in English. Jehoshua was eventually shortened to Joshua.

Hosea means “salvation”

Creation Summary

Recap part of Day 6:
Genesis 2:7-25 details the creation of man and woman. It says on Day 6 in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Genesis 2:7 details the creation of man.
Genesis 2:8-17 details man’s responsibilities.
Genesis 2:19-20 we see his name: ADAM, and all the work that he performs. God noticed Adam was lonely Vs 18, after all, all the animals Adam was naming had mates (how much time passed?).

Time for God to provide a mate for Adam (wait didn’t God create male and female on day 6? Where was the woman?) She was in Adam:
Genesis 2:21-22. God perform surgery and removes from Adam that from which He will create the woman. (perhaps rib would better be translated: womb). Genesis 2:23-25 Adam meets the woman. She is not called EVE until after she sins Genesis 3:20.

Day 7

Genessis 2:1-2 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

Because of 2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day., there are some that teach this must have been a long period of time. But each day ends with “the evening and the morning were”. One day consists of an evening and a morning, 12 hours each, 24 hours in all.
Take your pick 7 days or 7,000 Years

Having Restored the earth from being without form, void, dark, covered with water! to a beautiful and productive world, The Lord God rested.

Day 6

Genessis 1:24-31 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Day 6 was a very busy day for the Lord. He created everything that would live on the earth. The He capped it off by creating Man and giving him dominion over ALL of it.
So ends the 6th day.

Day 5

Genesis 1:20-23 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

Let the waters bring forth abundantly creatures, this would be all the sea creatures. Then God creates fowl that may fly above the earth. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply. AND God saw that it was good.

Thus ends the 5th day.

Day 4

Genesis 1:14-19 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

This is stated on day 1: “And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night”.

Now it is restated. It also appears He now creates the Sun, Moon and Stars.
What was the light on day 1?

Day 3

Genesis 1:9-13 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called the Seas: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day.

Dry Ground appears and now God calls it Earth. And the waters are called seas. God brings forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind.
Earth begins to look like what we now know and so ends Day 3.

Day 2

Did God take a 12-hour break?

Genesis 1:6-8 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

The firmament is put into the waters, with water under and above it and then He calls it Heaven. It appears the earth is surrounded by water with a canopy of water above, surrounding it, protecting the earth.
And so, Day 2 ends.

In the Bible, the firmament refers to the celestial arch or vault that separates the earthly realm from the waters above, as described in the Genesis creation narrative. It is often understood as a solid expanse or dome created by God to divide the waters and is associated with the sky or heavens.
The “firmament” (from the Latin firmamentum, meaning “sky” or “expanse”) is mentioned 17 times in the King James Version of the Bible and refers to the expanse of the heavens above the earth.
Genesis 1:6-8,14,15,17,20 9x
Psalm 19:1, 150:1 2x
Ezekiel 1:22,23,25,26, 10:1 5x
Daniel 12:3 1x
= 17x

Day 1

Genesis 1:2-5 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Look at the description of the Earth: without form, void, dark, covered with water!
Then God lit it up by creating light. Then dividing light and dark into time periods called Day and Night. End day One.

Interesting that the term earth is mentioned here. It’s not till day 3 that dry ground is formed and then God calls it earth; And God called the dry land Earth.
