Psalms 50 and 73—83 are called the “Psalms of Asaph” because his name appears in the superscription at the head of those psalms. There are 29 references to him in the Old Testament. He appears to be important to the Nation of Israel. A prominent Levite singer and seer in David’s court and was the son of Berachiah of the tribe of Levi. Even his sons and grandsons continued to serve.
2 Kings 18:18, 18:37 speak of Asaph the recorder and his son Joah.

1 Chronicles 9:15 Zichri, the son of Asaph;
1 Chronicles 15:17 So the Levites appointed … Asaph the son of Berechiah;

Ezra 2:41 The singers: the children of Asaph, an hundred twenty and eight.
