What must I do to be Saved?
For an individual to ask this question, they must be in trouble, in need or lost. And the Philippian jailer who asked Paul and Silas this question, realized he was lost. And of course they gave him a direct answer.
Acts 16:31-32 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
What exactly did they mean to Believe and be Saved? Let’s look into some writings of Paul. In his letter to the Church at Corinth he explained the Gospel:
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
The Gospel which can save us is to believe Christ Jesus Died (on the cross) for our sins,
was buried and on the third day rose alive. Victory over death!
When we believe that our next step is found in Paul’s letter to the Church in Rome:
Romans 10:9-13 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Confess, (speak) with your mouth, tell someone that you believe the Gospel, (Christ died, was buried) and God raised him from the dead. Now when you do that, it states YOU SHALL BE SAVED!! Is that all there is to IT? Yes, it is that simple. As Paul wrote to the Church in Ephesus:
Ephesians 2:8-10 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
SAVED THROUGH FAITH, GIFT OF GOD that’s salvation! Saved from the wrath of God; Saved from an eternal separation from God for all eternity.
Salvation is simple. The hard part is living as a Christian. But look at verse 10 again:
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
His workmanship, ordained,
we should walk,
God will do it for you, if you will let him.
As Paul wrote to the Thessalonian Church:
1 Thessalonians 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
Yes God, the Lord Jesus Christ will live in you and perform what he wants in your life. One more thought as you read these verses, it’s based on SCRIPTURE, the Word of God.
