Epistle of Jude (Quotes from Old Testament)

Jude probably wrote to the Jews as he is Jewish.  This Jude in not the Apostle (there are two James’ listed as Apostles in Matt 10:2-4) but was the half brother of Jesus (Gal 1:19)(Mark 3:6) who became a leader (Acts 15:13) in the Jerusalem Church after the resurrection of Christ. He doesn’t quote directly the  scripture (OT) but he does reference parts of it in his very short Epistle.                              King James Version (KJV)

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Genssis 13-19 contains the story of Sodom and Gomorrha

Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

(Michael the archangel is mentioned in Daniel but not disputing over the body of Moses. His death is recorded in Deuteronomy 34).

11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

way of Cain

Genesis 4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect and Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

error of Balaam
Deuteronomy 22 & 23 Contains the story of Balaam

gainsaying of Core (Korah)

Numbers 16 contain the gainsaying of Korah

14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

Enoch: His story is found in Genesis 5:18-24 but nothing of his prophesy.

(Enoch 1:9 And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones To execute judgement upon all, And to destroy all the ungodly:)

*We first learn of Enoch in Genesis 5 but it leaves us with questions. Hebrews 11 has the answers and Jude quotes Enoch! How did Jude come to know the words of Enoch? They are not in the Bible. The answer of course, is The Book of Enoch. A book which is actually quoted by Jude in the New Testament. What is the Book of Enoch and where did it come from?
